It can be rock, punk, or metal. Feel free to add your choice below, it must be a band that we haven’t covered before and all original music
by Erik Oldman
Helium Fuse is a three piece progressive, alternative rock band. The band was put together by guitarist Jimmy Piece in 2005 after spending years doing session work and touring with a number of national artists, including Nine Inch Nails and Timbaland.
The band has gone through a number of personnel changes while gigging out around Chicago and regionally. The current line-up includes Tragic Johnson on bass and vocals, and Walter Stritzel on drums.
I sat down with Jimmy recently to learn more about Helium Fuse.
Where does the name come from?
I was thinking of a band name when Wally and I decided to form a band and we started playing with words and we come upon Helium and really liked the sound of it but that name was taken and I always like this band called fuse who where friends of mine, they broke up but Helium Fuse just sounded right so we kept it.
How would you describe the Helium Fuse sound to someone that has never heard it before? Alternative/Progressive Rock/ Ambient Picture Janes Addiction on tons of redbull while having moments of deep relaxation to come back and take more shots of redbull
What is the inspiration for your sound?
The Mars Volta, Sigur Ros, reggae, Yes, Janes Addiction, Led Zep. Tragic and I are a fans of soul and I am a huge fan of ambient music…we mix that all together.
What can people expect at a Helium Fuse show?
Live music, musicians having a great time involving the audience in the show. It is becoming a community.
What are you listening to right now?
Anything ambient to be honest I don’t buy cds or listen to the radio I am usually creating music and will check out random things on spotify or Pandora. In Pandora I have Drum and Bass, Ambient, Bjork, The mars volta, Rush, yes, jane addiction, sigur ros, classical. If I had to say anything about radio I listen to Echos and the world cafe on public radio and online. really the list is huge.
